Hi Shash and Kerim.
Born Criminals or Born Actors? The Chhara let you know. Through their original theater colliding headlong in the process with history, civil society, the courts and police brutality.

Good luck :)

Number four was my first choice as it identified the protgonist the objective and the obstacles.
The revised logline does not indicate who the protagonist(s) are except to indicate that they call themselves 'born actors' and the stuff after the em dash is necessary as it identifies the obstacles and antagonists.

Indian society calls them “born criminals,” but this dedicated group of young actors use theatre to fight back against police brutality, discrimination, and history.

I prefer #2 as well. Sounds like an amazing film; can't wait to see it.

“Natural born criminals” or “natural born actors?” The Chhara fight back against police brutality and discrimination through their original art.

None of those really range my bell. Maybe try something like this;
In a world where 'chance' and 'future' are uncommon words; these natural"born criminals" have made theater entertainment their vehicle to bring hope and survival to a volatile nation.

@Sapna, Thanks for your input. This is a logline, so it needs to be short! (Already some Hollywood producer types have told us it is still too long...) There is a longer 1 paragraph treatment of the film which you can read on the film's "about" page, and for proposals we have a 1 page version.

I wonder if you should try and work in where the community is from or how impoverished they are to give readers an understanding of their motivation for choosing theatre as a way out? But I can understand the need for conciseness as well. Otherwise #4 gets my vote too.

I like 2 and 4, and 2 is better than 4. I like the concise of 2, but the "born actor" of the 4. That means if I had to choose, I would rather pick up concise and try to put rhythm and sound into it. Maybe alternative like this (hope not get you more troublesome):

Called “born criminals” by the British, but "born actor" from the heart. The Chhara still live as outcasts, and now they are fighting back with theater.

I like the 4th one the best in its structure but I am not sure if "Born actors" counterbalances the 'Born criminal" I'm giving a revised option:

They were told they were 'born criminals'. They knew better. Dedicated young Indians from the Charra community, use theatre to tell their own story, fighting against police brutality, discrimination and history.
